L'Italiano all'Università is aimed primarly at university students who are studying Italian at university in Italy in Italy or abroad.
The course covers levels A1-A2 (Beginners-Elementary) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The book consists of a student's book and a workbook (with solutions), each divided into 12 units. Every unit of the Student's book is followed by either a linguistic aptitude test, complete with solutions, or by a self-evaluation test.
Each unit is divided into the following sections:
- Entriamo in tema: starter exercises designed to motivate learners and facilitate complehension of the text.
- Comunichiamo: a section that includes both the text to be worked on, togheter with compehension questions, and exercises that introduce and practice aspects of language (communication functions).

-Conosciamo gli italiani: a section that contains a written text on aspects of Italian culture and society linked to the topics covered in the unit; it includes a list of discussion questions to encourage students to make cross-cultural comparisons between their society and that of the Italians they meet.
-Si dice così: where the expressions and communications functions learnt in the unit are reiterated.
Sintesi Grammaticale: this section summaries and present the grammar systems introduced in the unit
- An Italian-English glossary.
The units of the workbook are also divided into sections: Funzioni, Vocabolario, Grammatica, Per concludere, Pronuncia, Parole chiave.
The volume is completed by a IDEE, a platform that includes the workbook exercises in interactive form and extra material and digital tools for the student: and an Audio CD (included with the book) with spoken texts used and the pronunciation exercises from the workbook.
