Winner of the Carolina Novel Award and a finalist for the Foreword Magazine Book of the Year Award, this is the story of Bobby Renzo, growing up in the late '50s and early '60s in the marginal East Liberty section of Pittsburgh, in the care of a beautiful, unmarried mother who raises questions and eyebrows among the devoutly Catholic, Italian-American residents.

Review
A captivating book. . . beautifully written, familiar in a way you wish more novels could be. -- Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Poignantly and poetically described and frozen in time some forty years ago. . . a beautifully crafted book. -- Voices in Italian Americana

Written in a charged, spare prose . . . a must-read among poetic books about artists' memories of home; highly recommended. -- Choice
